PLEASE SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL RACES
Over the last few years weve seen quite a few
new races come to Salem - WVRR's Cascade Half-Marathon and Great Arbor Day 8K and plenty
of new ones from Gallagher Fitness Resources. A lot of time and effort goes into putting
them on and while they attract runners from outside the area, they also depend on us - the
local runners and walkers - we are their life blood.
The Willamette Valley Road Runners would like to
encourage participation by recognizing and rewarding those club members who have been the
most active in supporting local events. Well be tracking club members
participation both as competitors and as volunteers at all local events, including WVRR
activities such as the Hwy 22 cleanup (we need support too<g>). Local events are
defined as those taking place as far south as Albany, east to Silverton/Sublimity/Stayton,
north to Woodburn, and west to Dallas. To keep things interesting well maintain an
up-to-date list of top participants on our club web site as well as in our newsletter.
Those participating in 10 or more events will receive
certificates of appreciation and have their names recorded in our archives. Even if a
particular race doesn't fit into your training schedule, consider using it as a training
run, or help out by volunteering. Help keep local races alive and prosperous and
well all save on gas money driving to the Portland races.
Note - race participation and
volunteer activities will be tracked from January 1, 2003. (Events where more than one
race can be entered for one entry fee (Zena, Bush Park XC Series) will be counted as one
event). If your name appears in our WVRR
Race Results then it will be counted in the totals (for smaller races not listed in
the results contact me. I will try and get lists of
volunteers from local event organizers, but again if it's a small event contact me. |
