2nd Annual SPORTSFEST 5K Run & Walk Saturday, July 8, 2000 at 8:00 am Salem Riverfront Park Start Times: 5K Run and Walk.............................8:00 AM Both events start and finish in Riverfront Park in Downtown Salem. This run & walk is the Saturday kick-off event of Salem's Sportsfest 2000. You are welcome to stay the day for food, fun & entertainment, and 20 different sporting events!. Directions: To downtown Salem & Parking: From the North - South on I-5 to Salem Parkway (Exit 260A), South on Salem Parkway (becomes Commercial St as you enter downtown). Free parking available in the Chemeketa Parkade on Commercial (between Chemeketa and Court Streets). From the South - North on I-5 to Commercial St Exit (Exit 249), South on Commercial approx. 5 miles. (Commercial becomes Liberty St a you enter downtown). Turn left on Chemeketa, (by JC Penny's ) then left on Commercial. Free parking available in the Chemeketa Parkade on Commercial (between Chemeketa and Court Streets). RIVERFRONT PARK is located along the Willamette River. From the Chemeketa Parkade walk one block west to Front ST. For your safety, enter Riverfront Park at traffic light and crosswalk at Front & Court Streets. In-Person Registration: Starts Saturday, June 24, 2000 & continues until Friday, July 7, 2000 exclusively at Gallagher Fitness Resources, 233 Commercial St NE, Downtown Salem (503)364-4198 or 800-423-3460. Mail-in Registration: Mail in your completed registration form along with a check or money order payable to Sportsfest 5K Run & Walk, 233 Commercial St NE, Salem, OR 97301. Mail-in Registration by July 6, 2000. Late Registration fee assessed on entries received after that date. NEW! ON-LINE REGISTRATION - An added feature this year. You may register for this event on-line at active.com Day of Race Registration - From 6:30 am to 7:45 am near the Start/Finish Line at Riverfront Park. Registration Fees: 5K Run and 5K Walk Pre-registration........................................ $7 (Family of 4 or more $25) Late Registration (after July 8).........$10 (Family of 4 or more $35) T-Shirts: Limited edition, commemorative T-Shirts are available for $10.00. T-shirts are four-color. NOTE - Shirts are not guaranteed for day of race registration. Results: Results will be posted at Gallagher Fitness Resources. Men's and Women's Overall & Master's Winners receive special awards from New Balance and Gallagher Fitness Resources. Top age group finishers win stuff too! Age Group Awards:(Divisions below) 1st place - New Balance Pro Locker Pack and award certificate. 2nd place - New Balance Duffel Bag and award certificate. 3rd place - New Balance Microsafe Socks and award certificate. Divisions - 0-14, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65 & over. Awards not picked up at awards ceremony must be picked up from Gallagher Fitness Resources by August 15. NOTE: Merchandise awards will not be mailed to winners. A Featured Event of Sportsfest 2000 - Come and spend the day in Salem and help us celebrate sport! Your participation in this 5K run & walk is merely the beginning of a full day of sporting events, food, refreshments, entertainment, and fun in Salem's Riverfront Park. RUN OR WALK IN THE MORNING, SPECTATE OR SHOP IN THE AFTERNOON THEN DANCE AND PARTY IN THE EVENING! With over 6000 expected participants in 20 different sports events there will be plenty to watch on Saturday. Enjoy 3-on-3 basketball, a soap box derby rally, tennis, adult volleyball, tug-of-war challenges, a strongman competition, table tennis, men's soccer, ultimate frisbee, a pokemon tournament, extreme sports demonstrations, and more. Food booths, beverages, and local top name bands in the park's amphitheater will provide the excitement once the day's competitions have wound down. The entertainment is free to the public!. Endorsed by the Salem Metro Sports Commission - The Salem Metro Sports Commission continues the Sportsfest tradition in the greater Salem-Keizer Metropolitan area this year. Sportsfest promotes the positive values of leading an active life through participation and competition in organized sporting events. Sports provide this region with a multitude of opportunities for fun and entertainment for ages and abilities.
