10 Things to Consider Stuffing in a Runner's Stocking
by Kathy Sansone
1. Duct tape. ..a whole roll.. .the best
and the cheapest trick for preventing blisters.
2. Mineral Ice.. .better 'n those other
gels and creams for getting into those aches and pains and staying there. Last seen in the
Pharmacy section ofCostco, sometimes hard to find, but worth it. 3. "The
Stick"... a funny plastic stick with loops of more plastic around it.. .great for
massaging out those lumps and bumps that form after long, hard workouts. Don't do a
marathon without one. Available at www.thestick.com
4. Amby Burfoot's book. The Runner's Guide to the
Meaning of Life. A great little book full of wit and wisdom about this sport we
love so much. Easily found at Jackson's, Amazon, Borders, etc.
5. Socks, sox, soks, and more socks
6. A large, juicy orange, or a bunch of
those sweet little Clementines that give us Vitamin C and a lift on these wet running
days.
7. A bottle of the best microbrew, to be
saved for after the run, of course. My personal favorite.. .Hazelnut Brown Nectar from
Rogue Ales
8. Coffee beans to get you going.. .did you
read the article in the latest Runner's World?
9. A gift certificate to... Gallaghers, of
course, or for a run together on a special trail, like Wildwood, McDonald Forest, Silver
Falls, Tryon Creek Park, etc. etc.
10. "Body Glide".. .a little
stick that looks like deodorant, but does so much to prevent rubbing and chafing of
running clothes. Gallagher's always has it in stock.
