Five Fabulous Femmes (or
Friendly Females, or
) had a rolling conversation and rollicking good time as we
wound our way from Eugene to Albany in the Civil War Relay. Superbly organized by Judy
Martin, the team also included Levi Query, Becky Heintz, Jeri Nored, and Kathy
Sansone. We were in the Supermasters Women category, and didnt really feel our
ages until that ominous 4th leg.
We found the event to be rather low-key, in
a way that worked just right. There was always time to meet new people, cheer on other
teams, and find old acquaintances at the exchanges along the way. As with so many teams,
one of the best parts of being on this one was that each time, each runner simply got out
and ran her hardest. You cant ask for anything more, and it kept us right even with
our predicted finish time.
As you recall, November 24th was
a pretty nice day for running: no rain, very little wind, and temperatures that made it
feel good to run hard. We all noticed, however, the north wind pick up on our 4th
leg. At one point I looked at my watch, thinking I must be just about finished, and saw
the running time of 4 minutes. Oh well
Finish line treats were abundant, and we
found it really pays off to wait for the door prizes on this one. Each table (which
amounted to about 10 teams) divided up fun and delicious door prizes. For a rate of $32.00
per person, this relay includes a nice warm sweatshirt at the end, an easy day of driving,
and some wonderful scenery along the way.
If you havent done this one, or maybe
have taken some time away from it, there are at least five fabulous femmes out there that
